Toward a greener future

going 100% green by 2030: a realistic approach

2015 saw the most significant developments ever in the transformation of Faroese energy production. All energy in the Faroe Islands will come from renewable sources by 2030, declares energy provider.

Faroese public energy provider SEV produced 60% of all energy in the Faroe Islands from water and wind in 2015. Also, the company was awarded the Nordic Environment Prize for its efforts in making the Faroe Islands one of the few societies in the world running entirely on renewable energy. That goal is by no means achieved yet. However, several big steps have been taken towards a greener future, the most significant of which is a wind farm and battery storage system completed in Húsahagi, near Tórshavn, last year.
